Taylor scores runner-up finish during IMCA Wild West Speedweek opening weekend

Jeff Taylor and his Shaw Race Cars No. 5 Modified recently made the long haul from Locust Grove, Arkansas, to the Pacific Northwest to compete in the IMCA Wild West Speedweek at seven tracks in eight days.

The event kicked off on Saturday at Southern Oregon Speedway (Central Point, Oregon) with 34 IMCA Modifieds in the pits at the 3/8-mile oval. Taylor started first and finished sixth in his heat race, relegating him to a B-Main. He drove from eight to fifth, but was unable to transfer to the main event.

However, Taylor’s fortunes turned around on Sunday night at Coos Bay Speedway (Coos Bay, Oregon) where 29 IMCA Modifieds were on the property.

Taylor finished third in his heat, putting him eight on the grid for the 35-lap A-Main on the 3/8-mile track. He advanced six spots to score a second-place result behind Gray Ferrando. Troy Morris finished third, with Lawrence O’Conoer fourth and Jon Debenedetti fifth.

Next, the IMCA Wild West Speedweek continues with a full slate of weeknight races before reaching its conclusion on Saturday.
