Seventh-place finish in LOLMDS stop at Smoky Mountain; fifth in Hell Tour debut
Competing on the recently redesigned 3/8-mile oval, Tyler Erb took his Best Performance Motorsports No. 1 Late Model to Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tenn.) on Friday for the doubleheader weekend with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS).
With officials setting the grid for both preliminary features based on time trial results due to a rough track, Erb’s qualifying effort placed him on the seventh row for his prelim. With $5,000 on the line, Tyler charged forward eight spots in the 30-lapper to register a sixth-place finish.
On Saturday, Tyler raced his way into the $50,000-to-win Mountain Moonshine Classic with a runner-up showing in his heat race. Breaking into the top-10 again, Erb passed five cars in the 50-lap affair to finish seventh.
Joining the DIRTcar Summer Nationals on Sunday, Erb trekked to Sycamore Speedway (Maple Park, Ill.) for the fifth round of the tour. Following a second-place showing in his heat, Tyler scored a fifth-place finish in the 40-lap feature. He chased Brian Shirley, Jason Feger, Chad Finley, and Dennis Erb Jr. to the checkers.
