Best finish of 4th for Berry Jr. during USMTS Masters at Cedar Lake

Tom Berry Jr. and his Brodehl Trucking No. 11x team took on more than 40 Summit United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) foes during each night of this weekend’s three-day USMTS Masters at Cedar Lake Speedway.

Preliminary action for the 24th annual event kicked off on Thursday on the 3/8-mile, high-banked clay oval in New Richmond, Wisconsin. Berry finished fifth in his heat race on the event’s opening night, but transferred to the 40-lap, $3,000-to-win feature via a B-Main victory. Berry started 15th in the main event and moved forward two positions to finish 13th.

On Friday, Berry started off strong by setting the overall quick time in qualifying with a lap of 14.978 seconds. After driving from sixth to third in his heat, he started fourth for the night’s 45-lap A-Main paying $5,000 to win.

Berry battled within the top five for the duration of the race, running as high as second before finishing in the fourth spot. He followed Cayden Carter, Dustin Sorensen and Jake O’Neil across the start-finish line, with Tanner Mullens taking the fifth spot.

Saturday’s finale saw Berry finish fifth in his B-Main to nab the last transfer spot after a fourth-place effort in his heat race. Berry started 24th in the night’s 50-lap, $11,000-to-win feature and charged forward 10 positions to come home 14th.

Berry is currently sixth in the USMTS National Championship standings and leads the rookie points by more than 100 markers.
