Sooner Series returns to Thunderbird Speedway Friday, Saturday at Enid cancelled

John Rittenoure - TULSA, Okla. (May 1, 2023) - The Complete Well Testing Sooner Late Model Series presented by Hayden Ross Motorsports Foundation returns to Thunderbird Speedway for the second time this season on Friday.

Kip Hughes won the Sooner season opener at Thunderbird on April 14. He was chased to the finish by 2022 Rookie of the Year Brett Hansen. Saturday, May 6, Enid Speedway was scheduled to host the Sooner Late Model Series, but a monster truck event scheduled by the fairgrounds has force track officials to cancel the show.

Chasing Hansen in the points race is rookie Eli Ross and Richard Shepler who are tied for second. Eric Brill sits in fourth and veteran Eddie Tidwell is fifth.

Racing will start at 8 p.m. on Friday at Thunderbird.

Sooner Late Model Series
The Sooner Late Model Series was formed in 2016 by Enid Speedway co-promoter Mark Brill. Brill felt there was not many opportunities for late model competitors to race in Oklahoma and the Sooner Late Model Series was formed. Now the series has grown beyond the borders of Oklahoma with events held in the neighboring states of Kansas, Texas and Arkansas as well.
