Trio of Top-10 Finishes for Berry Jr. at 81

81 Speedway (Wichita, Kan.) was the destination of choice for Tom Berry Jr. over the weekend. The Iowa driver thundered into the half-mile oval for the three-race Ed Gressel Memorial.

Fifty-three Summit Equipment United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) competitors joined the festivities on Thursday night as the tripleheader came to life. Tom laid down the second fastest time in his qualifying group and then charged from fifth-to-second in his heat race to earn the sixth-starting spot for the 30-lap feature.

Passing two competitors in the $3,000-to-win affair he crossed the finish line behind Tanner Mullens, Jake Timm, and Will Krup with Zack VanderBeek rounding out the Top-5 finishers.

The second round of competition was held on Friday night with Tom setting fast time in his qualifying group, followed by a third-place finish in his heat race.

Earning a spot in the dash he finished sixth before starting the feature in fifth. Racing in the Top 10 throughout the 35-lap affair, Berry Jr. crossed the finish line in seventh.

Saturday's finale was highlighted by a $10,000 top prize. Tom hit the ground running with fast time once again in his qualifying group. Clawing from sixth-to-fourth in his heat race, he started the 50-lap finale in the 10th position.

He mounted a great run in the feature, rocketing to a second-place finish behind only Jake O'Neil with Jake Timm, Will Krup, and Rodney Sanders completing the Top-5 finishers.

Tom continues to lead the Grant Junghans USMTS Rookie of the Year points and is fifth in the overall series' standings.
