Cade Dillard
Top-10 finish in DIRTcar Nationals prelim at Volusia
Back in action in The Sunshine State, Cade Dillard returned to Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) on Monday evening to pilot his Joel’s Auto Sales No. 97 Late Model for the 52nd annual Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals.
Following an eighth-place outing in his heat race, Dillard snuck into the opener with the third-and-final transfer spot in his B-Main. Gaining four positions in the 25-lap affair, Cade throttled to a 21st-place finish.
For another $7,000-to-win prelim on Tuesday, Cade’s seventh-to-third showing in his heat race pinned him on the eighth row for the feature. Clawing forward one spot, Dillard crossed the line in 15th.
With the 52-car field split into three groups on Wednesday, Dillard followed up the 11th-fastest qualifying lap in his group with a 10th-place finish in his 20-lap preliminary.
On Thursday evening as the remainder of the week shifted to a World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series sanctioned program, Cade came in sixth in his heat and B-Main, ending his night early.
After losing Friday’s program to Mother Nature midway through the event, Dillard returned to the half-mile oval on Saturday for the Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals finale. With 53 Late Models on the grounds, Cade’s sixth-place finish in his heat relegated him into one of three consolation races. Needing to place second or better to make the $20,000-to-win main event, Dillard fell short with a sixth-place outing.
