Chase Junghans
Pair of top-five finishes in DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia
Taking part in the second round of the Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals, Chase Junghans invaded Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) on Tuesday afternoon for the 52nd running of the annual event.
After finishing ninth in his heat, Chase nearly raced his way into the feature with a 12th-to-4th showing in his B-Main, missing a transfer spot by two positions.
With the 52-car field divided into three groups on Wednesday for a trio of preliminary features, Junghans qualifying effort placed him on the sixth row of his prelim. Wheeling his way into the top-five, Chase charged forward seven spots in the 20-lap affair to finish fifth.
On Thursday as the remainder of the week became World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series sanctioned, Chase followed up the sixth-fastest lap in his group with a heat race victory. With $10,000 on the line in the feature, Junghans notched a solid fourth-place finish in the 30-lapper. He followed Bobby Pierce, Brandon Overton, and Tim McCreadie across the line with Hudson O’Neal coming in fifth.
With Mother Nature axing Friday’s program midway through heat races, Junghans secured his spot Saturday’s $20,000-to-win DIRTcar Nationals finale with a second-place finish in his heat. Losing six positions in the 50-lap affair, Chase crossed the line in 18th.
