Wieland Winternationals bring Nothdurft to East Bay
The 2023 Georgia-Florida speedweeks continued for Blair Nothdurft and Bargain Barn Motorsports on Monday afternoon with the Wieland Winternationals at East Bay Raceway Park (Gibsonton, Fla.).
With 58 Late Models entered for the opener of the six-race event, Nothdurft got spun around while battling for a transfer spot in his heat, relegating him to eighth. Buried deep in his B-Main, Blair elected to scratch from the consolation race and prepare for the remainder of the week.
On Tuesday, Blair followed up the third-fastest lap in his time trial group with a runner-up finish in his heat race. With $7,000 on the line in the feature, Nothdurft was an early retiree with nine circuits remaining.
With the field inflated to 65 cars on Wednesday, Nothdurft edged his way into the $10,000-to-win A-Main with the third-and-final transfer spot in his heat. Losing six spots in the 40-lap affair, Blair recorded a 20th-place outing.
The following night, Blair came in fifth in his heat race before placing seventh in his B-Main, ending his night early.
For the fifth round of the Wieland Winternatinonals on Friday, Nothdurft’s third-place finish in his heat race pinned him on the eighth row for the $12,000-to-win A-Main. Retiring on lap 20 of the 50-lapper, Blair was credited with a 26th-place finish.
An unfavorable forecast axed Saturday’s Wieland Winternationals finale.
