Top-10 finish with LOLMDS at East Bay Raceway Park
Back on the road with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS), JCM Motorsports and Wil Herrington invaded East Bay Raceway Park (Gibsonton, Fla.) on Monday afternoon as the 1/3-mile oval hosted six consecutive nights of racing.
Drawing 58 Late Models, Herrington was collected in a tangle in his heat race while challenging for a transfer spot, relegating him into the B-Main. With too much damage and not enough time to make the call for his consolation event, Wil scratched and the team shifted their focus to the remainder of the week.
For the second round of the Wieland Winternationals on Tuesday, Wil stopped the clock third-fastest in his group before placing second in his heat. With $5,000 on the line in the feature, Herrington recorded an 11th-place finish, topping his best finish of the year on January 26th at Golden Isles Speedway.
With the field inflated to 65 cars on Wednesday, Herrington raced his way into the show via a consolation win after missing a transfer spot by one car in his heat. Losing two spots in the 40-lap affair, Will crossed the line in 21st.
On Thursday, Wil was granted a provisional into the $10,000-to-win A-Main after failing to transfer out of his heat race and B-Main. Clawing forward eight positions in the 40-lapper, Herrington salvaged a 22nd-place outing.
Following a 10th-place outing in his heat race, Herrington’s 13th-to-6th charge in his B-Main forced him to use a provisional into the feature. Marching his way into the top-10, Wil passed 20 cars to register a ninth-place finish.
A combination of wet weather and unfavorable forecast axed Saturday’s Wieland Winternationals finale.
