Brandon Overton

Pair of fourth-place finishes in Henderson's 2X at East Bay

On Monday afternoon, Brandon Overton hopped behind the wheel of the John Henderson-owned No. 2X Warrior Race Car Late Model for the opener of the Wieland Winternationals at East Bay Raceway Park (Gibsonton, Fla.).

With 58 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries on the grounds, Overton’s eight-lap heat race triumph placed him on the third row for the prelim. With $5,000 on the line, Brandon inched forward one spot in the 30-lap affair to register a fourth-place finish.

For another $5,000-to-win preliminary feature on Tuesday, Brandon charged from sixth-to-fourth in the feature after starting the night off with a heat race victory. He chased Ashton Winger, Hudson O’Neal, and Brandon Sheppard to the checkers with Dennis Erb Jr. coming in fifth.

On Wednesday, Overton returned to the Wells Motorsports No. 76 and showed speed right out the gate as he timed in third-fastest in his group. With a heat victory positioning him sixth on the starting grid for the feature, Brandon faded in the second half of the race to finish sixth.

The following night, Brandon rebounded with an 11th-to-5th run in his heat after a broken driveshaft sidelined him for his time trial session. Slated to start the feature in 19th via B-Main win, Overton ran into electrical issues on the pace lap that prevented him from completing a circuit.

For Friday’s $12,000-to-win program, Overton edged his way into the A-Main with the third-and-final transfer spot in his heat. Wheeling his way into the top-10, Brandon passed 10 cars in the 50-lapper to finish eighth.

Saturday’s Wieland Winternationals finale fell victim to wet weather.
