JCM Motorsports begins 2023 campaign at Golden Isles Speedway
The 2023 season officially kicked off for JCM Motorsports and pilot, Wil Herrington, on Thursday afternoon with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) sanctioned Super Bowl of Racing at Golden Isles Speedway (Brunswick, Ga.).
With 50 Late Models on the grounds at the 4/10-mile oval for the tour opener, Herrington timed in eighth-fastest in his qualifying group before placing third in his heat. Earning the 16th-starting position for the opening night feature, Wil clawed forward four spots in the 40-lapper to finish 12th.
For another $10,000-to-win program on Friday afternoon, Wil fell short of a transfer spot in his stacked heat race, relegating him into a consolation event. Failing to place second or better, Herrington was granted a provisional into the A-Main. Pulling off on the lap 14 of the feature, Wil was scored 27th on the final rundown.
On Saturday, Herrington followed up a seventh-place outing in his heat with a 10th-to-4th charge in his B-Main. Relying on a provisional into the $25,000-to-win Super Bowl of Racing finale, Wil gained 10 spots in the 60-lap affair, crossing the line in 17th.
The weekend drew to a close on Sunday with the team stopping at Bubba Raceway Park (Ocala, Fla.) as the track hosted the fourth round of the Lucas Oil Florida-Georgia speedweek. After missing a transfer spot in his heat race, Wil edged his way into the feature with the third-and-final transfer position in his B-Main. Rolling off on the 11th row, Herrington improved three positions in the talent-laden field to finish 19th.
To cap off the two-day BRP Winter Nationals on Sunday, Wil’s fourth-place finish in his heat placed him on the eighth row for the A-Main. With $10,000 on the line, Herrington was collected in a multi-car tangle on the opening lap that brought an immediate end to his night.
