Benedum visits Golden Isles and Bubba for Lucas Dirt opening weekend
Mike Benedum traveled to Golden Isles Speedway (Brunswick, Ga.) on Thursday for the opening night of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
With 50 Late Models signed in for the Super Bowl of Racing, Benedum qualified 19th in his group before grabbing a ninth-place finish in his heat. With one more chance to make the $10,000 Lucas Dirt opener, Mike was unable to transfer with a 15th-place run in the second B-Main.
The following evening, Mike missed a transfer spot in his heat race and B-Main, ending his night early.
For Saturday's $25,000 finale, Benedum was a scratch from his heat race after dealing with transmission issues. The team was able to fix the mechanical problems in time for the B-Main, but missed the transfer with a ninth-place finish.
Switching focus to Bubba Raceway Park (Ocala, Fla.) on Sunday, Benedum followed up a strong qualifying lap with a third-place run in his heat race. Making his first A-Main start of the weekend, Mike completed all 40-laps and finished in 15th in the $10,000-to-win feature.
For another $10,000 show on Monday, Benedum didn't get the qualifying lap he wanted and was unable to make up any spots in his heat. Being towards the back of a tough B-Main, Mike did not make the call.
