Rodney Sanders

Sanders continues Wild West Shootout at Vado

On Wednesday afternoon, Rodney Sanders returned to Vado Speedway Park (Vado, N.M.) for the third round of the Rio Grande Waste Services Wild West Shootout.

Despite qualifying for both preliminary features, Sanders was an early retiree from the Super Late Model A-Main on lap 14 and was a scratch from the Modified main event.

Back in action on Friday night after a scheduled off day on Thursday, Rodney missed a transfer spot in both cars in his heats, relegating him into the B-Main. After edging his way into the Modified feature with a third-place finish, Sanders fell one spot short of a transfer position in his Late Model consolation race with a fourth-place outing. Retiring on lap 13 of the 25-lapper, Rodney was credited with a 23rd-place outing.

On Saturday, Sanders edged his way into the $10,000-to-win Late Model feature with the fourth-and-final transfer spot in his heat. Battling more bad luck, Rodney pulled off on lap 17. In his Modified, Sanders followed up a seventh-to-third run in his heat with a fifth-place showing in the A-Main. He trailed Dereck Ramirez, Tyler Davis, Tyler Wolff, and Darron Fuqua to the checkers.

For the Wild West Shootout finale, Rodney qualified for the $25,000 Late Model A-Main via a runner-up B-Main finish while placing second in his Modified heat. With an early exit in the Late Model feature placing him 22nd on the final rundown, Sanders went onto pass seven cars in the 25-lap Modified finale to finish seventh.

Rodney finished ninth in the Wild West Shootout miniseries point standings.
