Dillard notches fourth-place finish in Wild West Shootout opener at Vado
Cade Dillard lifted the lid on his 2023 campaign on Saturday afternoon with a visit to Vado Speedway Park (Vado, N.M.) for the Rio Grande Waste Services Wild West Shootout.
Drawing a stout field of 48 Late Models for the 17th annual event, Cade timed in fifth-fastest in his group before placing third in his heat race. Starting the $10,000-to-win A-Main in 10th, Dillard charged forward six spots to register a fourth-place finish. He followed Jonathan Davenport, Brandon Sheppard, and Ricky Weiss across the line with Kyle Larson coming in fifth.
For another $10,000-to-win A-Main on Sunday, Dillard’s third-place finish in his heat race positioned him on the sixth row for the feature. Running into trouble early, Cade retired on lap 13 after drawing the first caution of the 40-lapper.
