Allen Rebounds for 10th-Place Finish in Gateway Dirt Nationals
Chase Allen traveled north to the Dome at America's Center (St. Louis, Mo.) over the weekend for the sixth annual Castrol Gateway Dirt Nationals presented by O'Reilly Auto Parts.
Twenty-eight competitors were on hand for Chase's prelim night on Friday, and his outing started on a rough note with mechanical issues preventing him from registering a lap in qualifications.
As a result he had to start on the tail of a heat race, where he only managed to advance to a sixth-place finish. With only the Top-4 finishers advancing to the feature, Allen was relegated to the B-Main.
He passed three competitors to finish fifth, but fell short of reaching one of the two transfer spots as his night came to an early end.
On Saturday evening action resumed with the weekend finale. Via his preliminary night performance, Chase started ninth in a qualifier. Late in the race he experienced more mechanical woes and was already slowing before another competitor made heavy contact, sending Allen partially through the fence.
He was thankfully uninjured and despite not reaching a transfer spot, he received a promoter's provisional for the 30-lap, $10,000-to-win finale. Capitalizing on the opportunity Chase passed 10 cars to record a 10th-place finish and earn Hard Charger honors.
