Freeman pilots Team 22 Inc. entry in World Finals at Charlotte
Payton Freeman traveled to the The Dirt Track at Charlotte (Concord, N.C.) on Wednesday afternoon to pilot the Team 22 Inc No. 22 Late Model for the World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series World Finals.
Drawing a stout field of 70 Late Models for the three-day event spanning over four days, Freeman was collected in a multi-car tangle in his heat race, relegating him into a B-Main. Buried deep in the field, Payton salvaged an 11th-place outing.
On Thursday, Payton came in fourth in his heat before grabbing the second-and-final transfer spot in his B-Main. With $15,000 on the line in the preliminary feature, Freeman carried a steady pace in the 40-lap affair to finish 24th.
With preliminary results placing him on the third row of his heat race on Saturday afternoon, Freeman slipped back to a ninth-place finish, sending him into the B-Main. Needing to place second or better to make the $25,000-to-win World Finals finale, Payton marched forward five spots but his bid for the 50-lap finale fell short with a sixth-place outing.
