Dustin Linville attends Dirt Track World Championship at Portsmouth

On Tuesday afternoon, Dustin Linville entered the Brent Cornette-owned No. 22 Late Model into battle with the Castrol FloRacing Night in America at 411 Motor Speedway (Seymour, Tenn.) for the ninth stop of the 11-race tour. (Michael Boggs Photography)

With the fourth-and-final transfer spot in his heat race placing him on the seventh row for the $22,022-to-win A-Main, Linville was an early retiree from the 50-lap affair on lap 24.

Back in action on Friday, Dustin returned to the driver’s seat of the Tim Short Auto Group No. D8 Longhorn Chassis Late Model for the 42nd annual General Tire Dirt Track World Championship presented by Optima Batteries at Portsmouth Raceway Park (Portsmouth, Ohio). Drawing a stout field of 68 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries, Linville showed speed early in his heat but tagged the wall while battling for a transfer spot, relegating him into a B-Main on Saturday.

Needing to place second or better to make the $100,000-to-win Dirt Track World Championship, Linville raced forward six spots to lock into the Jim Dunn non-qualifier feature. Starting in 25th, Dustin retired on the 10th circuit to save equipment.
