Thornton rebounds with eighth-place finish in DTWC; third in LOLMDS standings

With 37 Late Models entered, Thornton laid down the second-fastest time in his group before picking up a heat race victory. With $22,022 on the line in the feature, Ricky faded five positions in the 50-lap affair to finish eighth.
Back in action on Friday, Ricky entered the Hoker Trucking No. 20RT Late Model into battle at Portsmouth Raceway Park (Portsmouth, Ohio) for the 42nd annual General Tire Dirt Track World Championship presented by Optima Batteries. Drawing a stout field of 68 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries, Thornton edged his way into Saturday’s $100,000-to-win finale with the third-and-final transfer spot in his heat.
Starting in 13th, Thornton rebounded to finish eighth in the 100-lapper after suffering a pair of flat tires. The first flat struck during a lap-34 caution and the second with 14 laps remaining, but Ricky charged from the tail to salvage a Top-10 run.
Ricky finished third in the final LOLMDS point standings.
