Top-10 finish in FALS Frenzy opener; clinches MARS ROTY
McKay Wenger made the short trip to Fairbury Speedway (Fairbury, Ill.) on Friday afternoon to compete in the MARS Racing Series doubleheader weekend to close out the season for the series.
With 36 Late Models entered for the FALS Frenzy opener, Wenger followed up the sixth-fastest lap in his time trial group with a third-to-second run in his heat. Starting the $5,000-to-win preliminary feature in seventh, McKay faded late in the 40-lapper to finish ninth.
On Saturday, McKay used a provisional into the finale after missing a transfer spot in his heat race and B-Main. With $15,000 on the line, Wenger was an early retiree from the 50-lap affair on the 11th circuit. Despite his early exit in the feature, McKay was crowned the MARS Racing Series Rookie of the Year. He pocketed $2,500 and an additional $4,000 for finishing third in the points chase.
