Marlar and Falloway Bag Iron-Man Racing Series Big Daddy Classic Triumphs at Ponderosa Speedway

JUNCTION CITY, KENTUCKY (October 1, 2022)– The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Northern and Southern Series and the Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Southern Series would visit Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY for the final night of the Fall Classic weekend for the running of the Big Daddy Classic. Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN would claim the Big Daddy Classic victory and $10,088 payday with the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series, while Cole Falloway of Owensboro, KY would sweep the weekend with the Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Southern Series division and claim another $1,500 payday.

The victory for the 44 year-old Marlar, who is a second generation racer, would be his second career Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series victory and would come behind the wheel of a Longhorn Chassis powered by a Cornett Race Engine and Marlar’s entry carries sponsorship from Delk Equipment, Rocket’s, Tri-Rivers Enterprises, Can-Am Auto Exchange, Auto Parts 4 Less, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Stanley Best Heating and Air, VP Racing Fuels, Midwest Sheet Metal, and Bilstein.

Mike Marlar would grab the lead from his outside front-row starting position of the Big Daddy Classic Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series main event, with Tanner English, Camaron Marlar, Josh Rice, and Scott Bloomquist giving chase. Mike Marlar would set a torrid pace at the point and quickly open a comfortable lead, with the remainder of the top five remaining the same as Mike Marlar began to lap slower traffic on lap seven. The leader would work his way through traffic masterfully until the first caution of the race appeared on lap sixteen for Kenneth Howell’s slowed machine on the backchute. The restart would see the front three remain the same, while Bloomquist would grab the fourth position from Rice, while Camaron Marlar would work past English for second one lap later on lap seventeen. Charlie Jude would spin in turn two on lap nineteen to trigger the second caution of the event and on this restart, the Marlar brothers would hold the top two positions, with English third, while Rice would retake fourth from Bloomquist. As the race reached the halfway mark on lap twenty-five, Mike Marlar would again begin to work lapped traffic and when Camaron Marlar and English encounterd lapped traffic, English would close in on Camaron Marlar would reclaim the second spot on lap thirty-two. Mike Marlar would get into heavy lapped traffic on lap thirty-four and by lap forty-two, English had closed right up on the race leader’s back bumper. Mike Marlar would thread the needle between cars on lap forty-five and get some breathing room just prior to the final caution of the race waving on lap forty-eight for a spin by Charlie Jude in turn two. The final restart would see the front five remain the same, with Mike Marlar claiming the victory, trailed by English, Camaron Marlar, Rice, and Bloomquist. The remainder of the top ten finishers would be Ryan Gustin, Garrett Smith, Michael Chilton, Daulton Wilson, and Justin Rattliff.

Cole Falloway would use his pole starting position to take the lead at the start of the Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Southern Series main event, followed by Brandon Kinzer, Bryan Barber, Victor Lee, and Ben Harmon. Harmon would work past Lee for fourth on lap two, while Lee would retake the spot one circuit later. Barber would gain second briefly only to lose it back to Kinzer on lap four. Falloway would stretch his advantage at this point and was about to begin lapping slower cars when the first caution of the race flew on lap eight when Joe Husband and Reece Ogle slowed on the backchute and both would be done for the event. The restart would see the front five remain the same, but only for one lap, as Lee would third from Barber on lap nine. Falloway would continue to pull away from the field, only to have the final caution of the event slow his momentum when Tim Patrick would slow in turn two. The front five would remain the same on the final restart, with Peyton Harlow now pressuring Harmon for fifth and as Falloway entered slower traffic for the final time, Falloway would continue to pull away from Kinzer as the field saw the white flag, with Harlow getting by Harmon for fifth. Falloway would score the race win, followed to the finish by Kinzer, Lee, Barber, and Harlow. Harmon would head up the remainder of the top ten, trailed by Jimmy Payne, Jacob Hall, Aaron Branham, and Jeff Rawlings.

Prior to racing action getting undeway for evening, Michael Chilton of Salvisa, KY would be honored as the 2022 Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Northern Series champion, with Chilton grabbing a pair of Northern Series victories along the way (Portsmouth Raceway Park on June 18 and Atomic Speedway on September 17).
