Second-place finish with Summer Nationals at Haubstadt
After wet weather axed Thursday’s and Friday’s DIRTcar Summer Nationals events, Payton Freeman headed to Highland Speedway (Highland, Ill.) on Saturday for the 17th round of the tour. (Josh James Artwork)
Following a fifth-place finish in his heat, Freeman grabbed the second-and-final transfer spot into the feature in his B-Main. Charging from the ninth row, Payton passed eight cars in the 40-lap affaor to register a 10th-place finish.
On Sunday afternoon at Tri-State Speedway (Haubstadt, Ind.), Payton topped the 28-car field in time trials before capturing a heat win. Unable to contain Bobby Pierce in the feature, Freeman notched a second-place finish in the 40-lapper. He trailed Piece to the checkers with Joe Godsey, Jason Feger, and Cody Bauer completing the Top-5 finishers.
Payton is up to fourth in the latest DIRTcar Summer Nationals point standings.
