SMR finishes third in Lil' Bill Corum Memorial at Tazewell

On Thursday evening, Shane McDowell Racing and Dale McDowell visited Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.) to take part in the inaugural event for the Kyle Larson Presents Late Model Challenge powered by Tezos. Drawing a stout field of 42 Late Models, Dale followed up the fifth-fastest time in his group with a third-place finish in his heat. For the Schaeffer’s Spring Nationals sanctioned program on Friday at Wythe Raceway (Rural Retreat, Va.), McDowell’s third-place finish in his heat race pinned him on the fifth row for the feature. With $10,053 on the line, Dale raced forward four spots to finish fifth. He followed Brandon Overton, Jonathan Davenport, Chris Ferguson, and Dale McDowell across the line.

On Saturday, McDowell stopped at Tazewell Speedway (Tazewell, Tenn.) for the event co-sanctioned by the Schaeffer’s Spring Nationals and the Valvoline Iron-Man Southern Series. With 36 Late Models entered for the second annual Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial, Dale timed in second-fastest in his group before placing second in his heat. Rolling off sixth for the $21,000-to-win A-Main, McDowell passed three cars in the 60-lap affair to place third. He stood alongside race-winner Chris Madden and Ricky Weiss on the podium.
