Sooner Late Models set for Okie Dirt Classic at Thunderbird Speedway

By John Rittenoure, TULSA, Okla. (April 11, 2022) - The Complete Well Testing Sooner Late Model Series returns to Thunderbird Speedway this weekend for the Okie Dirt Classic.

Two nights of racing gets underway at the historic half mile on Friday followed by another complete on Saturday.

On March 25-26 the CWT Sooner Late Model Series opened the 2022 season at Thunderbird where Hayden Ross and Brett Hansen picked up wins. It was the second career SLMS victory for Ross while Hansen, a former modified racer, won in only his second start with the Sooner series.

Hansen comes into the weekend with the points lead after picking up his second victory two weeks ago at Enid Speedway. Ross holds down second over defending Sooner Series champion Kip Hughes.

New this season is the race format that will see heat race lineups determined by driver draw. Feature races will be heads up from heat race finish with a redraw in the A feature for the top 4 or more drivers. The redraw number is based on the number of cars signed in for racing.

About Sooner Late Model Series
The Sooner Late Model Series was formed in 2016 by Enid Speedway co-promoter Mark Brill. Brill felt there was not many opportunities for late model competitors to race in Oklahoma and the Sooner Late Model Series was formed. Now the series has grown beyond the borders of Oklahoma with events held in the neighboring states of Kansas, Texas and Arkansas as well.
