Sooner Late Model Series

Ross dominates Sooner Late Model season opener

by John Rittenoure - MUSKOGEE, Okla. (March 25, 2022) - It took 36 races over two years before Hayden Ross won his first Complete Well Testing Sooner Late Model feature in 2021. It did not take as long to get his second one.

Friday Ross opened the 2022 season with a dominating performance on his way to victory at Thunderbird Speedway.

Ross started on the pole and survived five lap one yellow flags and easily win his second career Sooner Series win.

“We started racing a little bit earlier before all these guys so we had a jump start,” Ross said of his early start to the season. “We raced at Boot Hill Speedway in Shreveport and Page Texas with the Southern series.

“The more seat time I get the better I get.”

Ross pulled away from the field early and won by a wide margin over Brett Hansen.

“We have learned somethings and are learning more and more. I have become a better driver.,” he said.

“To start the season like that with the Sooner Series is a big confidence booster for tomorrow (Saturday) night.

It was a rough night for several drivers. Defending champion Kip Hughes spun and suffered damage, Dustin Allen lost fluid and coasted to a stop and Kearney Weaver got into the turn one wall and knocked his frontend down.

About Sooner Late Model Series
The Sooner Late Model Series was formed in 2016 by Enid Speedway co-promoter Mark Brill. Brill felt there was not many opportunities for late model competitors to race in Oklahoma and the Sooner Late Model Series was formed. Now the series has grown beyond the borders of Oklahoma with events held in the neighboring states of Kansas, Texas and Arkansas as well.
