Ninth-place finish in DIRTcar Nationals opener
Skyline Motorsports client Shane Clanton visited Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) on Monday afternoon to kick off six consecutive nights of racing aboard the Olson Explosives Inc. No. 25 Late Model. Drawing 47 cars for the 51st annual DIRTcar Nationals, Clanton edged his way into the opening night feature with the third-and-final transfer spot in his heat. On Tuesday afternoon after missing a transfer position by one spot heat, Clanton raced to a 10-lap consolation victory. Starting the feature in 21st, Shane was the first retiree of the race on the seventh circuit.
In a field of 58 cars on Wednesday as the remainder of the week became World of Outlaws Case Construction Late Model Series sanctioned, Shane came in fifth in his heat before placing second in his B-Main. Starting the $10,000-to-win A-Main in 24th, Clanton was credited with a 27th-place outing after pulling off on lap 11.
Later that night starting the Sunshine Nationals make-up feature from January 22nd in 13th, Shane retired early after slowing on the track on the sixth lap.
For another $10,000-to-win A-Main on Thursday, Clanton secured his spot into the main event with a B-Main victory. Moving forward four spots in the 40-lap affair, Shane recorded a 16th-place outing.
On Friday evening, Clanton’s third-place finish in his heat race pinned him 14th on the starting grid for the main event. Breaking into the Top-10, Shane passed five cars in the 40-lapper to finish ninth.
For the 51st annual DIRTcar Nationals finale on Saturday, Shane topped the 57-car field in time trials but fell short of a transfer position in his heat race and B-Main.
