7/29 News and Notes
Wentworth, NH - Friday night was a jammed packed night of great racing at Legion Speedway. The JRC Transportation Sprint Cars of New England were on hand to run two 25 lap features with the make up feature race from 6/3 that was rained out. Matt Hoyt of Campton, NH would win the make up event, and Luke Greenwood from Hudson, NH would take the win in the scheduled SCoNE event. For the rest of the racing it would be the weekly Non Wing Sprint Cars , the 600 Non Wing Mini Sprints, and the Pro 4 divisions. With some great close heat race action in all divisions the race fans would be in for a treat when feature time rolled around. In the NWSC action it would be Peter Childs starting up front with Ron Davis Jr along side. By lap 2 it would be Nick Comeau coming from fourth to lead the lap and get out front, while Childs fell back to third. A caution on lap 10 would take away Comeau's lead. Childs would get a great restart and pressure Comeau all the way up to lap 23 when Childs spun out going for the pass on Comeau. On the green whit checkered Comeau would hold off Brad Shanks for the win, with Matt Collins in third.
The 600 Non Wing Mini Sprints put on a great race which the many race fans seemed to love the division. The cars were fast and seemed to enjoy racing on the track surface that Dan Bowne has been giving the racers. Mark Wiggett and Kyle Gisleson would bring the field down the green flag in which Wiggett would get out front and set the pace. With a lap seven spin by the leader Wiggett, Dave Bodio would restart up front and take off with Gilleson in tow. Bodio would take the win followed by Gisleson, and Mark Reynolds.
The Pro 4's would see Jason Darling and Fabian Smith lead the field to green. Darling would lead 17 laps and as Josh Ruel passed for the lead Darling made contact and the yellow flag waived as Ruel spun in turn four. Darling was sent to the rear for the restart and Ruel given his spot back up front. It would be Josh Ruel with the win followed by David Bill and Wayne Pillsbury Jr in third.

** Please note some driver information is needed in some divisions for point totals. Should not effect the leaders just new drivers who are not in the system to date.
Non racing notes: Legion Speedway would like to welcome our new concession stand vendor , The Baker River Valley Snowmobile Club. The snowmobile club is a neighbor of the track and a section of their great trail system runs through the tracks property. We think this will be a great way for the club to generate some funds to maintain the trail system. The group was eager to meet the race fans and serve them a few basic items on the first night. They will be expanding the menu in the coming weeks.
The Legion Speedway staff would like to thank the racers and the race fans for supporting the track as they grow and learn how to operate the facility. The race fans have been great and we appreciate their comments and suggestions. We had a little fun with a group of campers from a local summer camp , Camp Moosilauke which is located not far from the track, had a few campers visit. These campers were from England, The Netherlands , and more. We had an announcer roam the stands during track prep and we found out that we had fans from four different countries , all six New England states , New York , Montana , So maybe we do have some good racing going on . Thank you to everyone who has visited the speedway so far in 2022. We gave away another kids bicycle as we do each week, this past weeks winner Cody was so excited he peddled off before we could get his name.
Our new water truck was a hit with both the driver Dirt Worm Dan and the fans. The race teams seemed to like it too. The way that the guys at Dawley Collision and Custom built the truck seems to disperse the water just great as Dan learns what he can do with it.
The next event will be on August 5th , The Jack Cook Memorial event. Jack was a racers racer, he did so much for the sport of auto racing in NH over the years and had some right here at Legion Speedway other than just winning races at the track. Gentleman Jack as they called him, is missed by many in the racing community and Legion Speedway is glad to honor Jack and his family with a name in his honor. So please if you plan to come to the track this coming Friday wear something yellow to honor Gentleman Jack. He won his last race at 2022 The Latchkey Cup in his number 14 yellow modified for The Lakes Region Ice Racing Club which he was the President for.
