Pair of top-10's in XRSS Spring Thaw at Bulls Gap
Taking part in the XR Super Series season opener, Ricky Thornton Jr. entered his SSI Motorsports No. 20RT Late Model into battle at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.) over the weekend for the two-day Spring Thaw.
After Friday’s event was postponed by weather to Sunday, Thornton raced into Saturday’s $30,000-to-win main event with a runner-up finish in his heat race. Rebounding after visiting the pit area on lap 15, Ricky regained seven positions in the 60-lap affair to finish ninth.
On Sunday, Ricky backed up the sixth-fastest qualifying effort in his group with a third-place finish in his heat. With a $12,000 payday up for grabs in the feature, Thornton passed five cars to register a sixth-place finish.
