Ricky Thornton Jr. scores seventh-place finish in Chili Bowl prelim

Ricky Thornton Jr. was back at the Tulsa Expo Raceway (Tulsa, Okla.) on Thursday afternoon as his preliminary night kicked off aboard the Reinbold/Underwood Motorsports No. 19R Midget for the 38th running of the Chili Bowl Nationals.

With passing points from heat races setting the grid for qualifiers, Thornton backed up a fifth-to-first run in his heat with a sixth-to-third showing in his qualifier. Starting Thursday’s prelim in third, Ricky lost ground late in the 30-lap affair to finish seventh.

Relegated into a B-Main on Saturday afternoon for one last shot at the $20,000-to-win Chili Bowl Nationals, Ricky failed to transfer out of his stacked consolation race, ending his bid for the 38th annual Chili Bowl.
