Ricky Thornton Jr. finishes second with LOLMDS at Port Royal

With 51-car field divided into two groups for qualifying, Ricky laid down the second-fastest time in his group before placing first in his heat. With $5,000 on the line in the feature, Thornton recorded a seventh-place finish in the 25-lap prelim.
On Saturday, Thornton outran Jonathan Davenport in his heat race to pick up the eight-lap victory. Taking part in a heated battle with Earl Pearson Jr. in the $50,000-to-win feature, Ricky led the race’s opening nine circuits but he was unable to track down Pearson late in the 50-lapper. He followed Pearson across the line with Gregg Satterlee rounding out the podium.
Ricky sits in third in the latest LOLMDS point standings.
