Seventh-place finish in Gopher 50 finale at Deer Creek Speedway

Relying on a provisional into the $10,000-to-win A-Main after getting a slow start to the evening, Thornton passed 16 cars in the 50-lapper to score a seventh-place finish.

On Thursday afternoon at Deer Creek Speedway (Spring Valley, Minn.), Ricky followed up an eighth-to-fifth run in his heat with a consolation victory. Starting the preliminary feature in 18th, Thornton gained nine spots to finish ninth.

For Friday’s $5,000-to-win preliminary, Thornton improved three spots from the 17th-starting position in the 25-lap feature, crossing the line in 14th.

Rolling off on the fourth row for Saturday night’s $50,000-to-win NAPA Auto Parts Gopher 50 via preliminary points, Ricky clawed forward one spot in the 75-lap affair to register a seventh-place finish.

Ricky sits in third in the latest LOLMDS point standings.
