Thornton notches Top-10 finish at Hagerstown
With Friday’s Hillbilly 100 at Tyler County Speedway (Middlebourne, W.V.) axed by Mother Nature, Ricky Thornton Jr. returned with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) on Saturday at Hagerstown Speedway (Hagerstown, Md.) for the Conococheague 50. Following a sixth-place finish in his heat, Ricky edged his way into the $15,000-to-win A-Main with the third-and-final transfer spot in his B-Main. Wheeling his way into the Top-10, Thornton Jr. passed 13 cars in the 50-lap feature to finish ninth. (Heath Lawson photo)
For the River Valley 40 on Sunday at Port Royal Speedway (Port Royal, Pa.), Thornton Jr. was forced to take a provisional into the main event after missing a transfer spot in his heat race and B-Main. With $10,000 on the line, Ricky advanced from 26th to cross the line in 12th in his secondary car but was disqualified by officials for issues with his left-rear chain mount.
Ricky is currently seventh in the latest LOLMDS point standings.
