With 46 Late Models entered, Ricky clocked in fourth-fastest in his group before placing second in his heat race. Reeling in a Top-5 finish in the 40-lap feature, Thornton Jr. gained three positions to register a fifth-place finish. On Tuesday for another $10,000-to-win A-Main, Thornton Jr. edged his way into the show with a third-place finish in his heat. Charging from the eighth row, Ricky passed 13 cars in the 40-lapper to come in third. His podium finish behind Devin Moran and Tyler Erb earned him the Optima Batteries Hard Charger of the Race award.

Returning to action on Thursday at All-Tech Raceway (Lake City, Fla.), Ricky laid down the third-fastest lap overall in time trials before picking up a heat win. Starting on the pole for the feature, Thornton Jr. stole the lead from fellow front-row starter Brandon Sheppard on the seventh circuit but surrendered the top spot one lap later. He went on to cross the line in fifth, following Sheppard, Devin Moran, Jonathan Davenport, and Shane Clanton to the checkers.

After Friday’s program fell to Mother Nature, Thornton Jr. secured his spot into Saturday’s $15,000-to-win finale with the fourth-and-final transfer position in his heat. Coming one spot shy of a Top-5 finish, Ricky improved eight positions in the 50-lap affair to register a sixth-place finish.

Ricky is currently fourth in the latest LOLMDS point standings.
