RTJ notches Top-10 finish in Clash at the Mag opener

Thursday night saw Ricky Thornton Jr. return with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) at Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Miss.) for the 13th annual Optima Batteries Clash at the Mag. Drawing 44 Late Models for the event co-sanctioned with the Comp Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS), Thornton Jr. followed up the fifth fastest time in his group with a third-place finish in his heat. With severe weather set to hit the area on Saturday afternoon, officials scratched Friday’s final preliminary night and shifted the $12,000-to-win Clash at the Mag to Friday. Coming in second in his heat race behind Mike Marlar, Ricky locked into the eighth-starting position for the main event. Pulling off early after bringing out the fourth caution of the race, Thornton Jr. headed pitside on lap 35.

Ricky is eighth in the latest LOLMDS point standings.
