SSI Motorsports and RTJ attend Knoxville Nationals
Thursday night found SSI Motorsports and pilot Ricky Thornton Jr. in action at Knoxville Raceway (Knoxville, Iowa) for the 17th annual Knoxville Nationals presented by Brandt. In a field of 48 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries, Thornton Jr. missed a transfer spot in his heat race by one position with a fourth-place finish. After streaking to a 15-lap consolation victory, Ricky improved two spots in the preliminary feature to finish 17th. (Todd Boyd photo)
For another $7,000-to-win preliminary feature on Friday, Ricky’s runner-up finish in his heat race positioned him sixth on the starting grid for the A-Main. Carrying a steady pace for all 25 laps, Thornton Jr. posted a sixth-place finish.
With his preliminary finishes placing him ninth on the grid for Saturday night’s $50,000-to-win Knoxville Nationals, Thornton Jr. brought out the final caution of the race on the 74th lap while running in sixth. He came from the tail in the remaining distance of the 100-lapper to finish 14th.
Ricky sits in seventh in the latest LOLMDS point standings.
