RTJ notches fifth-place finish in Rome Showdown

fter Mother Nature wiped out the second attempt at the Mountain Moonshine Classic on Friday Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tenn.), Ricky Thornton Jr. followed the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) to Dixie Speedway (Woodstock, Ga.) on Saturday evening for the Dixie Shootout. In a field of 39 cars, Thornton Jr. edged his way into the main event with the fourth-and-final transfer spot in his heat race. The following night at Rome Speedway (Rome, Ga.) for the Rome Showdown, Ricky timed in 11th fastest overall before placing fourth in his heat. Starting the $10,000-to-win A-Main in 11th, Thornton Jr. advanced forward six spots in the 40-lapper to register a fifth-place finish. He trailed Jonathan Davenport, Brandon Overton, Tim McCreadie, and Kyle Bronson to the checkers.

Ricky sits in eighth in the latest LOLMDS point standings.
