Weather Finally Breaks for WRS at Hanford
After two rain-outs in a row, we were finally able to get a race in the books on Friday as openers for the World of Outlaws at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford! We rolled in to the speedway and it was ROCKIN!! The Lucas Oil / Stark Naked / LeftTurn Motorsports sprint car was there with another 19 WRS 305's signed in and I heard there was over 30 410's - dirt track racing in California is doing great, and I'd like to take a moment to introduce our latest sponsors: Pit Posse Motorsports, SPYOptics, RynoPower, Ogio, and Skullcandy - thank you for your support and we are looking forward to a great 2019 season!
The track was pretty heavy during hotlaps and we were running pretty well, but as soon as Qualifying got underway, it started changing - a LOT! We ended up qualifying 17th which set us pretty deep in the field. We're still learning how to deal with the dramatic changes to the track during course of the day; it changed quite a bit during qualifying and we spent the rest of the day chasing the chassis.
For our heat race we were starting in 6th so we decided to make a few more adjustments and use the event as a test session - the car (and driver) was working better...we started 6th and finished 6th, but we were still behind the curve a bit - and took a bigger swing for the Main...
As it turned out, the track went decidedly dry-slick for our Main Event and we went the right direction, but not nearly far enough - as I am finally learning, a gigantic change in pavement racing is hardly a bump in the dirt...BUT, we are getting it! We started 17th in the Main and after an exciting run where we moved as far up as 12th, we ended the night in 15th due to a late race spin. At the end of the night, I have to say we learned a lot and put the car back into the trailer in one piece (except for the damn front wing strut that we have decided is a consumable item).
We are looking forward to our next show at Merced Speedway on April 6th, and hope to see you there!!
