George Helliwell Earns $10,000 Payday in 350 SMAC Event at Lancaster Motorplex; Carbone, Novoa, and Dunkleman Also Score Wins

LANCASTER, N.Y. (June 15, 2024) –Pelham, New Hampshire’s George Helliwell took home the $10,000 payday as he won the 350 SMAC Supermodified main event at Lancaster Motorplex on Saturday night. Tony Carbone from Cheektowaga, NY won his first Insinger Performance/VP Race Fuels Sportsman feature of the season. Dustin Novoa from Springville, NY won his second straight James Dunkleman III from Medina, NY won his first career Rusty Diamond Cores Pro 4.

Luke Holmes and Leslie Keyser led the 350 SMAC Supermodifieds to the green flag for their 45-lap feature event, with Holmes showing the way. George Helliwell would take over second from Keyser at the end of lap one. The caution would come out on lap one as Bill Helliwell suffered a blown motor. George Helliwell would take the lead away from Holmes on the restart, as Scott Watts Jr would take over second place from Holmes. Mike Christopher would catch Holmes and would battle for third place, as Matt Riley and Dave Helliwell raced in the top five. The caution would come out on lap seven as Riley spun in turn two. The restart would see Helliwell in the lead as Dave Helliwell battled with Watts for second and would move into the runner up position on lap nine. Michael Muldoon would take over fourth from Mike Christopher on lap 11 and would go after third place Scott Watts. Muldoon spun on lap 18 coming off turn four to bring out the caution and collected Mike Spurling. George Helliwell would take command on the restart and would pull away by almost a full straightaway over Dave Helliwell. Watts, Keyser, and Josh Sokolic raced in the top five. Helliwell would go on to collect the $10,000 payday. “I had no power steering the final five laps or so”, Helliwell said in victory lane. “I definitely had to muscle the car around the track for those final laps and I cannot thank the track and everyone for bringing us in”, Helliwell said.

Alan and Brian Schulz were on the front row for the Sportsman, with Bookmiller in the lead. Andrew Nye would take over the lead on lap three, with Tony Carbone racing in third place behind Bookmiller. Carbone would take over second on lap seven and would go after Andy Nye. Carbone would take over the lead on lap 22. Jake Christman would take over second place, with George Skora III following into third place on lap 23. The caution would come out on lap 27 as Andrew Nye would hit the inside Thermal Foam on the front straightaway. The restart would see Carbone in the lead ahead of Skora, Christman, Mike Fiebelkorn and John Barber. Carbone would hold off Skora to earn his second career win.

Chris Barber and Mike Piccirilli led the Monroe Extinguisher Street Stocks to the green flag for their 25-lap feature event, with the duo exchanging the lead several times over the opening laps. Josh Schosek would take the lead away on lap five, as Dave Johnson raced in third. Dustin Novoa would take over second on lap 10 and would go after leader Josh Schosek. Novoa would take the lead away following a lap 11 restart. Mike Piccirilli would bring out the caution on lap 20 as he slowed on the top of turns one and two. Novoa would drive on to his second straight feature win.

Ryan Hessler and Jimmy Dunkleman III brought the Rusty Diamond Cores Pro 4 to the green flag for their 15-lap event with Dunkleman in the lead. Tommy Hughes would take over second place, with Eric Black racing in third from his seventh starting position. Black would race his way to second in the late going, but it wouldn’t be enough as Dunkleman would cruise to the win.

Racing returns to Lancaster Motorplex on Saturday, June 22 at 6pm featuring the Insinger Performance Sportsman, Monroe Extinguisher Street Stocks, Rusty Diamond Cores Pro 4, 4 Cylinders, and Big Wheels. The June 22 date is the rescheduled May 11 program, which drivers, crews, and fans that have rain checks (wristbands and receipts) can use rainchecks.
