Jackson Jr. posts pair of podium finishes to close out strong MLRA season
Tony Jackson Jr. used top-three finishes on Thursday and Friday to secure a third-place result in the final Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA) point standings as the 2024 campaign drew to a close.
On Thursday, Jackson was among 15 MLRA competitors at the half-mile I-70 Speedway in Odessa, Missouri, for the inaugural $7,000-to-win K.C Cup. After a fourth-place showing in his heat race, Jackson drove his Superior Power Custom Homes No. 56 Super Late Model from eighth on the grid to finish third in the 30-lap feature. He followed Ryan Gustin and Chad Simpson under the checkered flag, while Dillon McCowan and Chris Simpson rounded out the top five. For his efforts, Jackson was awarded with the Swift Springs “Move of the Race.”
The MLRA season concluded with another $7,000-to-win show on Friday at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois. Twenty MLRA teams traveled to the 3/8-mile oval for the season-ending program. Jackson was again strong as he won his heat and rolled off from the pole in the 30-lap main event. He battled with Chris Simpson throughout the race and ultimately finished second to him. Chad Simpson completed the podium, with Rickey Frankel and Aaron Marrant coming home fourth and fifth, respectively.
Jackson concluded the season 85 points behind champion Chad Simpson, and just 15 markers back from runner-up Chris Simpson. Additionally, with his results at I-70 and Tri-City, Jackson has scored top-10 finishes in 15 consecutive features overall.
