Jackson Jr. rallies to capture $3,000 at Tri-City

“Well, we definitely won Thursday night the hard way,” laughed Jackson Jr. “We were fast in hot laps but struggled in qualifying and then got collected in a crash the first lap of the heat race. We tore up a bunch of stuff, but my crew thrashed to piece it back together for the B-Main. We won the B-Main and then came from 21st to the lead with four laps to go in the feature and got the win. It was a pretty awesome rally by our team.

“Friday night started out exactly the same as Thursday with some bad luck that left us starting deep in the feature again. I was able to salvage a third-place finish, and then on Saturday night we started up front, but just wasn’t quite good enough and finished third. All-in-all a pretty solid weekend of finishes for our team.”

On Thursday afternoon, Tony Jackson Jr. visited Tri-City Speedway (Granite City, Ill.) to compete in the opening round of the Super Late Model portion of the Modified Mania tripleheader. After getting behind the eight-ball in time trials, Jackson Jr. rebounded from a scuffle in his heat to pick up the B-Main win. Charging from the tail of the field in the feature, Tony passed 20 cars in the 30-lapper to capture his fifth win of the season and a $3,000 prize. He finished ahead of Rusty Schlenk, Trevor Gundaker, Blaze Burwell, and Brent McKinnon.

Jackson Jr. battled adversity during Friday night’s program after jumping the cushion and killing the motor while running third in his heat race. He was relegated to the B-Main, which he won to once again earn the 21st-starting spot for the feature. He was able to rally to a third-place finish in the $3,000-to-win main event.

The weekend drew to a close on Saturday night with another $3,000-to-win program as Tony’s night started on a much brighter note with the second-fastest lap in his qualifying group followed by a heat race win. He started fourth in the feature before finishing third behind Trevor Gundaker and Rusty Schlenk.
