Matt Schow Claims Elusive NCR Victory

ADA, Minn. (June 8) – Norman County Raceway held their annual ‘Meet N Greet’ night on Thursday, which allowed fans of all ages to meet their favorite drivers and get autographs on the front straightaway during intermission.

Matt Schow went to victory lane in WISSOTA PolyDome Dirt Track Series action. Speedway Motors IMCA Weekly Racing victories went to Austin Arneson, Jesse Skalicky, Aaron Olson, while Tim Estenson took the INEX Legends feature.

Grady Shearer jumped out to the early lead in the Christian Motors Midwest Modified feature. Shearer paced the field for the first five laps until Matt Schow got by Shearer following a lap five restart.

Once out front, Schow checked out from the field. One last caution flew with six to go, but Schow was able to fend off Shearer and Lucas Rodin as he went on to score his first win at Norman County Raceway.

“We’ve been struggling to get this one for a few years,” said Schow in KRJB Victory Lane. “We’ve been so close so many times, but something would always happen or somebody would get by us. I didn’t even know how to find the path on the front stretch to get to victory lane, but I’m finally here.”

Tim Estenson picked up a thrilling win in the Petermann Seed INEX Legends feature. The 15-year-old from Fargo made the winning pass for the lead exiting turn four on the final lap. Estenson dove to the bottom of Josh Julsrud entering the corner and slid up right in front of him coming out of the turn towards the checkered flag.

The win marked Estenson’s fourth triumph of the year.

Aaron Olson’s dominance of the Norman County Implement IMCA Stock Cars continued. Olson led every lap to remain undefeated at NCR in 2017.

Just as he did last week, Jesse Skalicky picked up the Titan Machinery IMCA SportMod feature after making a three-wide pass for the lead. Skalicky split Aaron Wetterlin and Andy Wager to take the lead before he ran away from the field. Wagner, Wetterlin, Luke Johnson and Kelly Jacobson rounded out the top five behind Skalicky.

Dale Kraling looked to put his name in the record books as one of just five drivers to have both a WISSOTA Modified and IMCA Modified win to his credit at NCR. Kraling got out to a commanding lead to start the Sanders Metal Products feature, but with six laps to go the seemingly unbeatable Austin Arneson moved into second after starting ninth and set his sights on Kraling.

Despite a gap of 1.2 seconds with five to go, Arneson was able to reel in Kraling, and grab the lead with two circuits remaining. Kraling fought back, but Arneson was able to fend off the challenge and take his third win of the season at NCR.

Racing continues next Thursday, featuring the WISSOTA Midwest Modified AFCO Race of Champions qualifier.
