Pair of fifth-place finishes in Ice Bowl at Talladega Short Track

Lifting the lid on the 2022 season, Austin Horton visited Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Ala.) on Friday afternoon to compete in the Super and Crate Late Model ranks for the 31st annual Ice Bowl. In a field of 30 Super Late Models, Horton secured his spot into Saturday’s $6,000-to-win A-Main with a heat race victory. After pitting on the ninth circuit with a flat right-front tire, Austin charged from the tail of the field to finish sixth. With 45 Crate Racin’ USA Winter Series entries on hand, Austin edged his way into the main event with the fourth-and-final transfer spot in his heat. Rolling off 14th, Horton gained nine spots in the 40-lapper to register a fifth-place finish. He trailed Cory Hedgecock, Jake Knowles, Josh Adkins, and Jody Knowles across the line.
