Ashton Winger runner-up in Fall Classic; collects $3,000 in prelim at Whynot Motorsports Park
Looking to defend his victory from last year's event, Ashton Winger rolled into Whynot Motorsports Park (Meridian, Miss.) on Friday afternoon for the 30th-annual Coors Light Fall Classic.
With a huge field of 51 Late Models on hand, Winger won his heat race which locked him into the second preliminary feature of the evening. Ashton led flag-to-flag in the 30-lap feature to pocket a $3,000 payday over Shane Clanton and Josh Putnam.
With the big money on the line Saturday evening, Ashton once again took the checkered flag in his heat race which placed him on the third-row for the 60-lap main event. With a record-breaking $20,000 up for grabs, Winger quickly moved his way to the lead before Tyler Erb overtook him with 20 laps to go. Winger battled back in the final laps but ultimately settled for a runner-up finish.
