Million and Dream bring Winger to Eldora Speedway
Behind the wheel of the Gambler Transport Motorsports No. 89 Late Model, Ashton Winger visited Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) on Thursday afternoon after wet weather consolidated the second running of the Eldora Million into a single day event. (Zach Yost photo)
With the 124-car field divided into two groups for a pair of $12,000-to-win preliminary features, Ashton edged his way into the prelim with an eighth-to-fourth run in his heat race. Clawing forward one spot in the 25-lap affair, Winger recorded a 13th-place finish.
Later Thursday night for heat races leading up to the Eldora Million, Winger’s seventh-place finish in his heat race relegated him into the B-Main for another shot at the $1,002,022-to-win A-Main. Needing to place second or better, Ashton fell short with an eighth-place outing.
On Friday as the 28th annual Dirt Late Model Dream got underway with a pair of prelims, Ashton followed up the 13th-fastest time in his 57-car group with a third-place finish in his heat race. With $12,000 on the line in the feature, Winger faded back to an 18th-place outing.
Starting on the third row of his heat on Saturday afternoon, Winger recorded a sixth-place finish, giving him one last shot at the $128,000-to-win Dirt Late Model Dream with a B-Main appearance. Needing to place second or better, Ashton logged a seventh-place finish.
