Chris Ferguson lands runner-up in prelim, seventh in World 100 finale

For the 53rd running of the annual World 100, Chris Ferguson was one of 102 Late Models amassed at Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) to kick off the three-day event with preliminaries on Thursday and Friday culminating into Saturday’s $56,000-to-win finale.

With the 102-car field split in two, Ferguson squeezed into his preliminary feature with a fourth-place finish in his heat. Starting in eighth, Chris was sidelined on the 10th circuit with a broken transmission while running fifth.

For another round of prelims on Friday, Chris clocked in sixth-fastest in his 51-car group before placing third in his heat. Chasing another $12,000 top prize in his feature, Ferguson advanced forward five spots in the 25-lapper to register a second-place finish. He followed Bobby Pierce across the line with Devin Moran rounding out the podium.

Lined up on the second row of his heat race on Saturday based on Eldora’s Every Lap Matters format, Ferguson grabbed the lead on the third circuit and stormed to the 15-lap victory. After race officials docked the original polesitter and elevated Chris onto the pole for the $56,000-to-win World 100 finale, Chris led the opening 14 circuits before charging Hudson O’Neal stole the top spot. He went onto place seventh in the 100-lap affair.
