Inside Line Promotions – SWEDESBORO, N.J. (Oct. 10, 2019) – Joey Amantea highlighted a three-race weekend at Spirit Auto Center Speedway with a 14th-place finish last Friday to kick off the 3rd annual Skyscraper race.

It began with two sets of timed warm-ups and Amantea ranked 31st overall in his group. He was already locked into the night’s feature event. Amantea started from the 20th position and raced his way forward six positions to finish 14th. The top 15 was his 44th of the season.

“We didn’t win, but it was nice to get track time and see where we stacked up,” he said. “I didn’t want to push the envelope too much and just tried to learn, while guaranteeing we had a working car for the rest of the weekend.”

On Saturday night Amantea participated in dual heat races to set the field for the feature. In the first heat, he started fifth and finished there. He also started fifth in the second heat, but he struggled to pass a car that was down on power and settled for sixth. As a result, Amantea didn’t qualify for the A Main.

“The car wasn’t bad and I felt okay about our chances after the first heat race,” he said. “In the second heat there was a guy blowing up in front of us and I just couldn’t get around him. By time his engine let loose, we had wasted too much time behind him and it cost us.”

Amantea headed into Sunday night’s $4,000-to-win finale 41st in overall points. This placed him seventh in a heat race and he advanced two positions to finish fifth. As a result, Amantea started fourth in the B Main. He was running as high as third, but a shifting issue caused him to lose the transmission and ended his night with a DNF.

“The car was really good Sunday night and I think we had a car capable of competing,” he said. “It’s a shame we lost the transmission, especially since it was a new motor. But overall I know we had speed before the problem.”

Next up will be two nights of racing this Friday and Saturday at Greenwood Valley Action Tracks in Orangeville, Pa., during the Blaise Alexander Memorial. Friday night’s event will be in non-wing 600cc micro sprint action while Saturday’s racing will be winged micro sprint competition.

“We always seem to run pretty well at Greenwood and we’re looking for success,” Amantea said. “We only have two weeks left of racing so I want to end the year on a high note. I’m looking forward to hitting the track and putting last week behind us.”
