Lewes, Delaware rookie Preston Lattomus came into the 2022 USAC East Coast season ready to learn and ready to take on the series best drivers on the 2022 trail. An up and down start, after flips at Bridgeport and Port Royal at the beginning of the season, resulted in the team debuting a brand new Triple X chassis at Selinsgrove in late May.
Only two races later Lattomus would out deal veteran open wheel driver Kyle Spence late in the going at the Lincoln Speedway to win in just his eighth feature event. The win for Lattomus would be a turning point of the season for the team, as they would go on to end the season with six of the last seven events finishing inside the top five.
Lattomus and team nearly picked off their second win of the season at the Winchester Speedway in a late race duel with eventual series point champion Briggs Danner, resulting in an impressive runner up finish.
A heat race win at Lincoln, Feature event win at Lincoln, average finish of 10th, and a seventh place finish in points were enough to garner Preston Lattomus the 2022 Rookie Of the Year honors, joining drivers Briggs Danner, and Alex Bright as drivers to have won a feature event, and won rookie of the year in their first season.
The Lattomus team with veteran Scott McLaren on the wrenches, had an impressive and strong season in 2022, even debuting a winged 358/360 at some year end events, with plans to do some more winged events in 2023. Lattomus also collected a wingless 600 feature event win, and will continue to run 600’s with his father, as a father son effort when time allows.
