Longdale Speedway Crowns McDonald, Maddox, Adams and Scruggs Champions
Inside Line Promotions – LONGDALE, Okla. (Sept. 18, 2017) – Four champions were crowned at the season championships Saturday night at Longdale Speedway.
Hunter McDonald of Oakwood claimed the title in the IMCA modifieds division by 34 points over David Solberg of Larned. McDonald had one feature win for the season and led the division with 10 top-five finishes.
Cole Traugott of Woodward claimed the evening’s feature victory with McDonald placing second. It was Traugott’s sixth victory of the year, which is more than any other driver in one division at the track.
Landon Maddox of Fairview held on to win the IMCA stock car title by 12 points over Travis Baird of Sharon and 15 points ahead of Hennessey’s Ryan Bohnstedt. Maddox paced the division with 12 top-10 finishes.
Traugott was a double winner for the evening by charging from the ninth starting spot to claim the stock car feature victory over Maddox and Baird.
The IMCA sport mods class had the closest points race going into the evening with Mike Roach of Woodward holding a slim three-point lead over Drummond’s Joe Adams. Those positions reversed after the feature as Adams’ fourth-place finish earned him the title by six points over Roach, who was scored in the 13th position. Adams and Roach each garnered four feature wins for the season with Adams tallying 10 top fives to seven for Roach.
A pair of Woodward drivers topped the feature finish with Kaleb Roach taking the win over Brandon Kenny.
Tyler Scruggs of Hennessey claimed the pure stock points title by 23 points over Brian Byrd, also of Hennessey. While Byrd had three more top fives for the season than Scruggs, he started one less feature.
Hesston Shaw of Hennessey won his division-leading fourth feature of the season ahead of Byrd.
While Saturday night was the final points race of the season, a pair of major events remain on tap at Longdale Speedway. The Darren Ernst Memorial will be held for sport mods and pure stocks on Sept. 29-30, with a whopping $3,000 payoff going to the winner of the sport mod feature winner on Saturday night. The track will host its final event of the year – the Iron Man Winter Nationals, which is the Top Gun championship for IMCA modifieds, IMCA stock cars, IMCA sport mods and pure stocks – on Oct. 13-14.
