Kolby Vandenbergh opens 2023 season with MLRA Spring Nationals at Wheatland
The 2023 season officially kicked off for Kolby Vandenbergh on Friday afternoon with the two-day Spring Nationals at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Mo.).
Drawing a stout field of 48 Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA) entries, Vandenbergh came in seventh in his heat before placing fifth in his B-Main, forcing him to use a provisional into the opener. With $3,000 on the line, Kolby jumped up two spots to finish 21st.
On Saturday afternoon, Kolby followed up a fourth-place showing in his heat race with a 12-lap consolation victory. Starting the $10,000-to-win Spring Nationals finale in 19th, Vandenbergh was an early retiree from the 40-lapper on lap 14.
