Mike Benedum Begins 2018 Season at Golden Isles Speedway

On Friday night Mike Benedum made his 2018 debut at Golden Isles Speedway (Brunswick, Georgia) for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) sanctioned Rhino Ag Super Bowl of Racing. Drawing 41 Super Late Models for the two-day event, Benedum timed in sixth fastest in his group but was light at the scales earning him the 11th-starting spot for his heat race. Transferring the Top 4 into the opening night feature, Mike suffered mechanical issues sending him into the B-Main. Needing to place in the Top 4, Mike logged a 9th place outing ending his night early.

Returning on Saturday night for the $12,000-to-win A-Main, Mike followed up the third fastest time in his qualifying group with a 2nd place finish in his heat behind Tyler Erb. Rolling off 8th, Benedum retired early from the 60-lapper after running out of tear-offs. He was credited with a 24th place finish. (Heath Lawson photo)
