Champs Reign Supreme at Sandusky
Things tend to go in streaks at Sandusky Speedway and Saturday night was no different as the reigning champions in three of the speedway's four divisions found their way back to victory lane. Kenny Sharp would bring his #11 modified to victory lane in dominant fashion while Jerry Karl would do the same in the #42 Wolfpack Division Sportsman. The Milan Automotive Street Stock event was won by Mark Resor while Kelly Lille continued her dominant ways in the Hobby stock division.
The headline event of the night was the twenty-five lap modified feature with brothers Steven and Jason Drew making up the front row. Steven would go to the early lead and maintain that lead until the first caution marred the timeliness of the event as Chris Hamilton and Mark Bott made contact in turn one on lap six. Steven Drew, Jason Drew, Kenny Sharp, Kenny Calhoun and Mike Sheppard would make up the top five at this early juncture of the race.
Sharp would make it around Jason Drew in the bottom lane on the restart and go to work on the relative newcomer Steven Drew for the race lead. Kevin Jaycox would then take the Rhode Law Offices #07 way up high in turn three on lap seven, once again slowing the pace of the field. The restart would be relatively uneventful; however, cautions breed cautions and this age-old adage rang true on lap nine as rookie Ryan Winningham spun in turn three.
This restart would see Sharp muscle to the race lead in the Arc Alloy #11 and take off until Tyler Shullick got the #61 Scott's machine way too high in turn two on lap thirteen, bringing the race to a crawl with Sharp leading Steven Drew, Calhoun, Joey Morisette and Jason Drew. Calhoun and Steven Drew would make contact on the restart, turning turns one and two into a parking lot as cars scrambled to avoid the mayhem.
Sharp, Steven Drew, Joey Morisette, Jason Drew and Jeremie Wiggins would lead the field back to the green with Sharp, Morisette and Wiggins taking off from the inside line as Drew's mangled machine fell backwards quickly. The #07 of Jaycox would spin out once again on lap twenty-four, setting up a one lap shootout for the win between Sharp and Morisette. Sharp would win the event with Morisette, Jeremie Wiggins, Mark Bott, and Chris Hamilton rounding out the top five. Kevin Jaycox, Ryan Winningham, Jason Drew, Kenny Calhoun, Steven drew, Tyler Shullick, Travis Eddy, Mike Sheppard, and Justin Hamilton rounded out the finishing order. Jason Wells had originally finished third in this event but was disqualified due to being too light in post-race technical inspection.
This weekend, Saturday April 30th, Sandusky Speedway will once again have the Digital Yalo modifieds, the Wolfpack Division sportsman class, the Milan Automotive Street Stocks and the Melinda!Melinda! Hobby Stocks. Pits will open at three with hot laps at 4, qualifying at five thirty, and racing action set to go off at 7 pm.
